What is a Noun?
Noun is a name. It could be a name of a person, place, thing or an animal.Place: hospital, school, park, home, office, city, country, Australia, New York etc.
Thing: computer, table, chair, bus, car, cycle, Pen, book, printer, guitar, and basketball etc.
Animal: cat, dog, horse, parrot, eagle, snake, cockroach, lizard, fish etc.
Person: man, woman, doctor, engineer, teacher, student, driver, Adam, Sara.
Types Of Nouns: -
Nouns are important members of the partsof speech in English language. It is very important to recognize the types of nouns. It will help you to use them correctly. There are two kinds of nouns. Common Nouns and Proper Nouns. These two nouns are further divided into sub clauses, such as: countable nouns, uncountable nouns, compound nouns, collective nouns, concrete nouns, abstract nouns etc.Common Nouns:
A common noun is the name of any person, place, thing or animal in general.
Examples:
boy,
city, friend, teacher, car, house, day.
Proper Nouns:
A
proper noun is the particular (specific) name of any person, place, thing or
animal.

Proper nouns are always starting with a capital letter.
Examples:
John,
Melbourne, Physics, BMW, White House, Sunday etc.
Countable Nouns:
Countable nouns are the nouns that can be counted. They can
be either singular nouns or plural nouns. They are also called count nouns.
Examples:
house,
table, fan, boy, cat, bike, butterflies, cities etc.
Uncountable Nouns:
Uncountable
nouns are the nouns that cannot be counted. They can be measure in physical
units (kg, litter). They are also called mass nouns.
Examples: gold, wood, water, sugar, air, time, cheese, sand, coffee etc.
Compound Nouns:
The
nouns that are generated from a mixture of two or more nouns are called
compound nouns. It can be from in three different ways;
1. Open or space between words
(bus stop)
2. Hyphen between words (Father-in-law)
3. No space or Hyphen between
words (Toothbrush).
Examples: white-board, breakfast, full moon, mobile phone, credit card,
mother-in-law, swimming pool etc.
Collective Nouns:
The
collection of people, places, things or animals is called collective nouns.
Examples: team, staff, class (group of student), crew (group of sailors), army
etc.
Concrete Nouns:
The nouns that can be seen, touched, heard, smelled or
tasted are called concrete nouns. They are also called material nouns.
Examples: stars, clouds, water,
apple, furniture, fragrance etc.
Abstract Nouns:
They are the opposite of concrete nouns. They cannot be
seen, touched, heard, smelled or tasted are called abstract nouns. They are
also called non-material nouns.
Examples: happiness, love, truth, pain, sorrow, goodness,
courage, strength, patience, etc.
